The Coventry Permanent Economic Building Society was founded by a small group of citizens, including Thomas Mason Daffern.
1884 -
1914
The Economic has become the largest building society in the area in terms of assets.

40% of Coventry families had an account with the Society.
1939 -
1967
Coventry Economic Building Society installs its first computer — a Honeywell Model 120.

We installed counter-based computer terminals in our branches.
1984 -
1987
Our total assets exceed £1bn

The call centre was established.
1997 -
1998
The Charitable Foundation was launched.

The call centre handles one million calls and we have more than 1,000 employees.
2001 -
2002
Online banking was launched, now members can manage their accounts 24/7.

We launched our Members First initiative.
2003 -
2010
Merging with Stroud and Swindon Building Society, we welcome 150,000 new members and extended our network into the South West and Wales.

We became a Children in Need call centre
2014 -
2015
All Society staff are invited to attend 10 CARES values events at the Ricoh Arena.

We were awarded 5 stars at the Financial Adviser Service Awards.
2016 -
2017
We embarked on a new TV and radio advertising campaign, launched 2 new websites, celebrated 10 Years of Intermediary Pledges, and became the 2nd largest building society.

2020 -
2021
We secured naming rights for the Coventry Building Society Arena.
